Confident Cards Advance to Omaha

The Cards opened the series with a convincing 8-1 win on Friday, dropped game two 6-9, and clinched their CWS berth by edging the Canes with a 3-2 victory on Sunday.

It marks Louisville’s first College World Series trip since 2019 — and another milestone moment under Coach Dan McDonnell.

  • 🚀 Confidence building: Based on their performance, these Cards are a confident crew. They can also take confidence in believing they can beat anyone remaining. Miami was 20-3 this season when holding its opponents to three runs or fewer.

  • 👀 Season of parity: Only three of the top eight seeds will be in Omaha as the super regionals play out. No. 13 seed Coastal Carolina made sure No. 4 seed Auburn would not be one of them, as the Chanticleers earned the first berth to the CWS. Unranked Arizona eliminated No. 5 seed North Carolina on Sunday.

  • 👋 Bye-bye: It was just the second time since the NCAA went to national seeds in 1999 that the top two seeds failed to advance to the super regional round. The first occurrence was in 2014 when No. 1 Oregon State and No. 2 Florida each lost early.

  • 🏆 What’s at stake: In the Cards previous five trips to Omaha, they hold a 4-10 record. Twice — in 2013 and 2014 — they were sent packing after just two games. Twice — in 2007 and 2017 — they won one game before being eliminated.

There is a feeling that this year is different. After all, the team has a saying: “Why not us?”

Louisville’s blend of veteran leadership, pitching depth, and clutch hitting has them well positioned to once again contend under the lights in Nebraska.

Omaha, here they come! ⚾

Baseball Gets Support From High-Profile Cards

Nearly 18,000 fans turned out to Jim Patterson’s Stadium for the three-game Super Regional, including several high-profile Cards coaches and alums.

Hoops coach Pat Kelsey led a C-A-R-D-S cheer on Saturday.

In addition, football coach Jeff Brohm, former Cardinal Adam Duvall (among many other former players), Gov. Andy Beshear, Sen. Mitch McConnell, stadium namesake Jim Patterson, and longtime fan Lonnie Ali all came to watch the Cards secure a trip to Omaha.

"I've got to tell you, I'm blown away by the support. We've hosted a lot of regionals, and we've hosted Super Regionals, and, man, every time I looked up in the stands and just the rows deep in the concourse, and when I looked out on the berm, it was just awesome and so we're so appreciative." — Cards Coach, Dan McDonnell
