In this week’s Athlete Unscripted, men’s basketball coach Pat Kelsey sat down for a wide-ranging, high-energy conversation about his first year at the helm, what drives him as a leader, and the people and values that shaped his coaching philosophy. From his early days under coaching mentors to the revival of a historic program, Kelsey doesn’t hold back.

“My job is not to be the CEO. It’s to be the chief reminder officer. You gotta bring it every single day.” — Pat Kelsey

💰 LOUISVILLE ATHLETICS SETS 2025-26 BUDGET

The Cards are planning ahead and preparing for change.

The University of Louisville Board of Trustees approved a $149 million athletics budget for 2025-26. It includes a $2.5 million allocation in anticipation of future revenue sharing with student-athletes.

The move makes Louisville one of the first public institutions to start budgeting for the House v. NCAA settlement terms that will reshape college athletics by allowing direct school-to-athlete payments.

✍️ A DOZEN CARDS SIGN NIL DEALS

Twelve University of Louisville student-athletes signed Name, Image, and Likeness deals last week through 502Circle’s “NIL Signing Day.”

The group represents a mix of rising stars and proven leaders across multiple sports, including football, women’s basketball, and Olympic disciplines.

Details of the individual deals weren’t disclosed, but the event signals continued momentum for athlete empowerment and brand-building in Louisville.

That’s it for this week.

More video, more action, and (as always) more reasons to be proud of what’s happening across Floyd Street.

Until next time,
